Satellite imagery helps solve loads of problems – for example:

      – Looking at the spread of wildfires and how they’re threatening wildlife and people’s homes (eg. California right now!)
      – Looking for water leaks from broken pipes (by looking at how the land/vegetation is behaving)
      – Counting and tracking vehicles eg ships, aircraft
      – Monitoring endangered animals eg. whales by counting them in oceans across the world
      – Looking at traffic movement across a whole city and working out how to stop traffic jams
      – Helping farmers manage their crops better by looking at how the land is behaving
      – Measuring productivity of open cast mines by looking at how much material has moved

We’ve barely scratched the surface of what can be found out from satellite imagery. With the latest improvements in machine learning etc, more and more incredible things are being discovered every day.
