One project I did when I was in sixth form with my friends was to launch a high altitude balloon to, among other things, take pictures of near space 30 km above the Earth. This was an awesome experience and it completely changed my perspective on science. It’s an inspiring moment for me that I’m really proud of and look back on fondly.

Since then I’ve been actively involved in projects of a similar nature eg. rocket, rovers, balloons – mainly as part of SEDS at university. I strongly believe more people should get to do this because a) it’s awesome and such an imaginative thing to do and b) it can be a major source of inspiration for young people to dream big and do cool things that they may think they can’t do.

I’ve done projects like this with schools in the past and it was great to see people absolutely loved it. To help more people get inspired and involved in this kind of stuff would be so great to see!
