The function of the equipment that Oxford Space Systems designs is to shrink and compact into a very small area ( just like origami :D). For example, we have a four meter satellite which compacts into an area just centimetres small!!!! So we use the material, carbon fibre, to create a strong, powerful, smooth surface that can fold very easily with a thing called memory folding. Memory folding is where the material will fold into the same place and size every time. The whole reason we do this is to give our customers small items that are light and affordable which can place onto the side of their rockets, which take up a small amount of area, which will then open up into the large surface area that they will need in space for all the transmitted rays.
